Acadia National Park is a 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area primarily on Maine's Mount Desert Island. Its landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-scoured granite peaks such as Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast. Among the wildlife are moose, bear, whales and seabirds. The bayside town of Bar Harbor, with restaurants and shops, is a popular gateway.
Casco Bay is an inlet of the Gulf of Maine on the southern coast of Maine, United States. Its easternmost approach is Cape Small and its westernmost approach is Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth. The city of Portland sits along its southern edge. Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine. It was commissioned by George Washington and completed in 1791. Located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the lighthouse sits at the entrance of the primary shipping channel into Portland Harbor, which is within Casco Bay in the Gulf of Maine.
The Moosehead region includes the headwaters of the Kennebec, the West Branch of the Penobscot, the Piscataquis, the Pleasant, and the Saint John rivers. Henry David Thoreau and other 19th-century visitors remarked on the beauty of the area. The region has a large moose population; moose outnumber people 3:1. However, the name of the region derives from the remarkable similarity between maps of the lake and an antlered moose.
Mount Katahdin is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Maine at 5,267 feet (1,605 m). Named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, which means The Greatest Mountain, it is located in Piscataquis County, and is the centerpiece of Baxter State Park. It is a steep, tall masiff formed from a granite intrusion weathered to the surface. Size: 8.5x11 (fits standard frame size)
Printed on a heavy guage paper stock in Portland, Maine.
