Thank you for stopping to look at this cute needle/pin sharpening strawberry pincushion! I loved my moms tomato pincushion with the cute strawberry hanging down the side. When I was young, I didn't know what it was for! But now, a much more wizened sewist, I know that that little strawberry had a very specific purpose - to sharpen your needles and pins. After much research, I learned that these were usually filled with emery sand which cleans and smooths your needles and pins as you poke them into the pincushion. After more research, I learned that there were two clear groups of needle sharpening experts: Those that felt emery sand was best, and those that prefer crushed walnut shells. Both are said to function the same - clean and smooth your needles and pins - keeping them at the ready whenever you are! I am providing both types in my shop. ***Please refer to the listing title and the info section within this description to be sure you are getting the filler you want.*** These cute little pincushions are just perfect as a gift for anyone who loves to sew - they can be used as ornaments, table decorations, bowl fillers, etc. while they wait to be used for their intended purpose. I have mine alongside my other pincushions - it's stable and sturdy and just makes me happy when I see it. Construction: Loop and felt pieces are both sewn and glued to make sure they withstand the test of time. The felt leaves attached to the pincushion are trimmed with a hand embroidered blanket stitch. The handmade flower is both sewn and glued as well to make sure it stays put. They are filled with either emery sand or crushed walnut shells, except at the very top by the leaves - I've used a tiny bit of fiberfill to aid in construction. Info: Measures: about 3" long.
