How To: Autumn Spice Blend
This Autumn Spice Blend is the perfect combination of warming spices for fall muffins, breads, desserts, and beverages. I have been thinking a lot about the proliferation of "pumpkin spice" everything. Pumpkin spice is, in itself, just a blend of warming spices. Typically, it's used in applications where you're also adding canned pumpkin for that signature flavor. Yet, pumpkin spice has taken over fall spiced goods even without any pumpkin in sight. I set out to create a more versatile blend - this Autumn Spice Blend - for all those applications including pumpkin bread and beyond. A cozy morning bun or cinnamon roll spice blend? Perfect. A mix in for apple or pumpkin pie? Yes please. Fall flavors infused into some carrot muffins? Done. I haven't tried it, but I'm positive this would also make a great rub for meat. I love the traditional combination of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. I punch up this blend with a hefty amount of ground cardamom and some fresh ground black pepper, which add a unique sweet and spicy citrusy note to this blend.
